International Driving Permit

Today I fetched my International Driving Permit. The idea was it would be more practical than carrying my passport around all the time. I was wrong.

The International Driving Permit is regulated by the 1949 Geneva Convention on Road Traffic and the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic. Australia uses the 1949 Convention, but I will be fine.

I counted on a small and practical document to carry. Wrong! The damned thing measures 31.5 cm by 15.2 cm. It’s huge. And it’s in French, the lingua franca in the 20th Century diplomacy. Luckily there’s a English translation as well.
