Canberra, a ‘no worries’ version of Washington DC

Like Washington DC, Canberra is a purpose-built capital. Washington DC was built on Masonic concepts, Canberra was the result of a competition and has a parliamentary triangle. Canberra is a more green and earthly red version of DC.

What can you do in Canberra? There is the new flashy Parliament House, Old Parliament House, the Australian War Memorial and heaps of museums.

It’s amazing how welcoming Parliament House is. The security checkpoint is friendly, “no worries”. You can walk freely. There’s a post office and an ATM. It’s incredible.

I also had a taste of question time in the House of Representatives. Prime Minister Julia Gillard was bashed for being untrustworthy. We don’t get this in our dull dozen of assemblies.

Sydney is next tomorrow.
